Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and skilled English Teacher to join an SEN Alternative Provision (PRU) in Tooting

Position: English Teacher (GCSE)

Location: Tooting, Southwest London

Start Date: ASAP

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

Pay: £150 - £256 per day (depending on experience and your teacher pay scale)

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent

About the Role:

This role involves teaching secondary-aged pupils (mixed genders) with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The students have been excluded from mainstream schools due to medical or SEN needs, requiring a teacher who is understanding, resilient, and experienced in supporting diverse learning requirements. You will be expected to take on the full responsibilities of the role, including planning, preparing, and assessing lessons in alignment with school standards and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons tailored to the needs of pupils with SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and other SEN-related challenges.
  • Adapting teaching strategies to support challenging behaviours and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Following the current English curriculum with confidence and expertise.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils to encourage their engagement and academic progress.
  • Taking on the planning, preparation, and assessment duties associated with the role, as well as contributing to the wider responsibilities expected of a permanent member of staff.

Requirements:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS) or a minimum of 2 years' experience teaching English to secondary-aged pupils.
  • Proven experience working with SEN students, particularly those with SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and challenging behaviours.
  • A valid Child and Adult DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Two years of verifiable references demonstrating teaching experience.
