A SEN teacher is needed for a special educational needs (SEN) school for KS3-5 students in North London.

As a SEN teacher, you will be working with students with complex needs, including severe (SLD) and profound learning disabilities (PMLD) and autism (ASD).

Willingness to do personal care is preferred for this SEN teacher role.

Your responsibilities as a SEN teacher may include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons for KS3-5 students, from entry level 1 to entry level 3.
  • Using alternative communication techniques, such as PECS or Makaton.
  • Implementing positive behaviour management strategies which may include physical restraints, to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control.
  • Assisting teachers with alternative teaching methods, such Lego therapy to encourage joint working and communication skills, or intensive interaction sessions to help pupils develop attention and interaction skills.
  • Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

To be a SEN teacher, you will need:

  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Experience working as a SEN teacher with students affected by ASD, SLD and PMLD.
  • QTS, ECT or OTT
  • A genuine passion for supporting SEN students.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
