Are you passionate about making a real difference in people's lives? Do you want to help those facing challenges in accessing their homes? We are looking for an experienced Adaptations Surveyor to join a local authority team and play a vital role in improving the quality of life for residents by designing, planning, and overseeing adaptations to their homes.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a candidate experienced in surveying, designing, and managing home adaptation projects. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong knowledge of housing, building regulations, and relevant legislation (e.g., The Housing Act, grant regulations).
  • A proven track record of managing multiple projects and working within strict timelines.
  • The ability to provide expert technical advice on repairs and improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage an individual caseload, providing tailored solutions for clients.
  • Design and specify home adaptation schemes that enable people to access all facilities in their homes.
  • Oversee the management of works on-site, ensuring they are carried out to a high standard.
  • Apply relevant legislation and regulations when agreeing on projects.
  • Liaise with various council departments, including building control, planning services, and social services, to ensure the smooth delivery of projects.
  • Work closely with external bodies such as water authorities and energy suppliers.
  • Assist in managing an expenditure of £2m for adaptation projects.
  • Conduct structural and technical surveys of clients' homes to assess the need for repairs and improvements.
  • Prepare drawings, schedules of work, and specifications for Building Control, Planning Authorities, and Grant approval.
  • Lead site meetings with applicants, builders, and other stakeholders to discuss progress and assess valuations for payment.
  • Prepare reports for projects exceeding £15k for the Adaptations Board and projects above £30k for the Executive Board.
  • Respond to enquiries from councillors, MPs, and the Local Government Ombudsman regarding specific cases.
  • Utilise external technical resources when necessary, in consultation with the Senior Surveyor or Service Manager.
