About the Role:Haringey Council is seeking to recruit two experienced Council Tax Advisers to join their Billing and Collection Team within the Revenues & Benefits Department. This is a temporary role designed to handle an increase in workload.

As a Council Tax Adviser, you will play a pivotal role in processing incoming correspondence, including moves, discount requests, and payment enquiries. You will also be expected to handle liability disputes and assist with recovery action. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Council Tax legislation and will be capable of working within the established guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process customer correspondence regarding moves, discount requests, and payment enquiries.
  • Respond to Council Tax debt inquiries and negotiate payment plans.
  • Handle liability disputes and assist in recovery actions.
  • Identify vulnerable or struggling customers and offer support or appropriate signposting.
  • Liaise with internal and external bodies, ensuring communication is effective and professional.
  • Investigate and respond to Councillor/Members and complaints within deadlines.
  • Manage all incoming contacts through phone, email, and correspondence within set targets.
  • Prioritise workloads effectively and ensure follow-up actions are completed as necessary.

Key Requirements:

  • At least 3 years' experience within a revenues team, ideally with a focus on Billing and Collection.
  • Strong knowledge of Council Tax legislation and council policy.
  • Proficient in using NEC and I@W processing systems.
  • Experience negotiating payment plans for Council Tax debt.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.

Additional Information:

  • Candidates will be required to attend Haringey offices once a month during the contract period.
  • The role is inside IR35, and candidates will be expected to work within the framework of HMRC's regulations.
