My client is a leading manufacturer of high-quality dental chairs and salon furniture and upholstery, renowned for their innovative designs and commitment to craftsmanship. With a strong reputation in the industry, they are seeking a highly skilled all round Upholsterer to join their team at their East London facility.

As an experienced Upholsterer or Upholstery Technician you will be responsible for upholstering and reupholstering dental and salon chairs to a high standard. You will work closely with the production and quality teams to ensure their products meet their high-quality expectations.

Commercial Upholsterer Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Cutting, sewing, and fitting upholstery materials to dental and salon chairs
  • Measuring and cutting fabric or leather to precise specifications
  • Assembling and attaching padding, covers, and trim to frames
  • Repairing and reupholstering chairs as required
  • Using hand tools, industrial sewing machines, and other upholstery equipment
  • Ensuring all work is completed to the company’s quality and safety standards
  • Collaborating with the production team to meet deadlines and quality requirements
  • Proficiency with staple guns, cutting tools, sewing machines, glue guns, and upholstery
  • hammers.
  • Skill in using pneumatic tools and specialized equipment for complex upholstery work.
  • Understanding of different fabrics, leathers, and synthetic materials.
  • Awareness of flame-retardant treatments and other safety standards.
  • Ability to follow design specifications and interpret client requests.
  • Problem-solving skills for custom projects and unique designs.
  • Strong attention to detail for creating durable, aesthetically pleasing finishes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or technical drawings.

Commercial Upholsterer Specification:

  • Proven experience as an Upholsterer, preferably in a manufacturing or commercial setting
  • Ability to work with a variety of upholstery materials including leather, vinyl, and fabric
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
  • Ability to measure, cut, and sew materials accurately
  • Skilled in using industrial sewing machines and hand tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach

Desirable experience:

  • Experience in upholstering dental or salon chairs
  • Knowledge of upholstery techniques specific to medical or salon furniture
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment

Upholsterer Qualification and Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an upholstery role, preferably in a commercial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with a range of upholstery materials including fabric, vinyl, and leather
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or upholstery patterns
