A leading planning and urban design consultancy is seeking an enthusiastic Urban Design Assistant to join their team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support and contribute to the design of residential developments across various stages, from initial research through to planning applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research into local and national planning policy relevant to residential developments.
  • Assist in characterising neighbourhoods and establishing site parameters that will guide the development of new schemes.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their project requirements and aspirations.
  • Assist with or manage the preparation of pre-application submissions.
  • Support the evolution of designs, contributing to the planning application process.
  • Assist in the preparation of Design and Access Statements and other supporting documents, such as members' briefing notes, presentations, and materials for public consultation.

What We're Looking For:

  • Urban Design or Planning related Degree
  • Strong research and analytical skills to investigate local policy and guidance for prospective sites, with the ability to summarise findings for the design team and clients.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a solid grasp of urban design vocabulary.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including the ability to prepare documents, incorporate graphics, and create basic page layouts.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Unreal is advantageous, but not essential.

Professional Development:

  • In-depth training and support to develop advanced InDesign skills and a deeper understanding of the Adobe suite for creating graphics and presentation materials.
  • Ongoing mentoring to become more involved in developing design principles and contributing to new developments.
