Horticultural Machinery & Ground Care Technician

  • Location: Loughborough 
  • Temp position to start with move to perm available
  • £16.11 per hour Paye or  £19.94 per hour Umbrella 
  • 37 hours per week 
  • Must have full UK Driving licence 

To be responsible for the diagnostics, servicing, and repairs of all university horticultural and groundcare equipment. All of which are to be delivered within budget and standards; whilst ensuring performance is not compromised.

Job Duties
  • The servicing and repair of vehicles as prescribed by the University, including plant, tractors, trailers and vehicles within the Sportsgrounds and Gardens section.
  • Utilise the FM asset management tool to ensure that work is planned, prioritised, and recorded.
  • The planning and arranging of minor repairs, by approved suppliers as directed by the Sportsground and Gardens Service Managers
  • To develop cost effective and constructive solutions to repair and maintain equipment.
  • To liaise with manufacturers for technical information.
  • To identify stock requirements, obtain quotes and procure stock items as required for the section.
  • To be responsible for the delivery and/or collection of machinery, equipment and spares when required.
  • To check on a monthly basis horticultural & groundcare equipment as defined by the Sportsground and Gardens Service Managers.
  • To ensure all fine turf machinery/ equipment has optimum cutting performance with the use of job specific grinding and sharpening equipment.
  • To organise and carry out testing of equipment for HAV (Hand Arm Vibration), maintain records and liaise with the Health Safety Risk Assessment Manager.
  • Maintain CoSHH records on University database from Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Complete hazardous waste register quarterly and ensure disposal of all hazardous waste products in accordance with University procedures. 
  • To maintain a safe, organised, clean, and tidy work area.
  • To comply with Health and Safety Regulations ensuring equipment used (including personal tools) is maintained is a serviceable condition and that work procedures are safe and adhered to.
  • To understand and implement Health and Safety policies and requirements for yourself and others commensurate with your level of responsibility within the department to enable you to discharge your duties and responsibilities safely.
  • To partake in the staff PDR process in line with the Loughborough University policies and guidelines.
  • Attend mandatory and job specific training requested by the university.
  • Periodic checks of the Sportsground and Gardens fuel tanks and fuel stores.  
  • Proactively engage with your own training and development.
  • To support a positive Health and Safety culture.
  • Attendance may also be required occasionally outside normal hours to deal with certain maintenance procedures.

Experience

  • Previous experience of repair and maintenance of Horticultural vehicles, equipment, and machines.
  • Ability to undertake regular routine repairs and maintenance work within a Sportsground and Gardens environment.
  • Full UK Driving licence
