Experienced Logistics Manager required to join a small, yet key firm, on a full time, permanent basis, based in Loughborough

Key responsibilities

Develop an understanding of day to day operational activities of the organisation

Provide Senior Management support across all departments in the absence of other managers

Attend monthly SMT meetings across various Locations

Logistics Operations:

Oversee the selection, picking, packing, and dispatch of products available 24/7, including managing day service and out of hours dispatch operations.

Act as the key relationship manager for all courier services, ensuring timely deliveries and addressing any delivery failures or issues.

Support the development of the packaging materials, identifying and utilising the most effective, efficient, and cost-effective packaging for products.

Working with the Managing Director to support the development and expansion oflogistics service.

Procurement and Supplier Management:

Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate pricing, and manage the procurement process to ensure it is effective, efficient, and cost-effective.

Continuously evaluate and adjust the stock range of both new and current products to optimise the supply chain.

Stock and Inventory Management:

Managestock items such as consumables, collection kits, stationery, uniforms, and general procurement.

Ensure proper stock levels are maintained, oversee the dispatch and return of collection and event kits, and manage the stock management software system for accurate record-keeping.

Responsible for equipment register for all equipment, and supporting the management of equipment within your department and other departments including:

ensuring calibration/servicing/repairs for critical and non-critical equipment is carried out in a timely manner.

liaise with relevant department managers in respect to the replacement of faulty or damaged equipment to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Facility and Vehicle Management:

Manage the maintenance and readiness of all charity vehicles and coordinate with the Managing Director to manage insurance-related matters for these assets.

Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of facilities in Loughborough, ensuring they meet the operational standards and requirements.

Compliance and Quality Control:

Ensure all operations comply with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice.

Support the Quality Department in product recall processes, manage temperature monitoring of equipment, and handle non-conformance reviews and audits.

Team Leadership and Development:

Manage the logistics team, including Out of Hours Dispatch Assistants, ensuring effective scheduling and task allocation.

Collaborate with the Training Department to ensure all team members receive necessary training and that annual reviews are conducted.

With support from other key staff, support and grow the team of volunteer drivers.

Reporting and Interdepartmental Collaboration:

Produce regular reports for the Managing Director, Senior Management Team, and Quality Department detailing logistics performance and strategic alignment.

Maintain effective communication with key departments such as Laboratory, Customer Service and Quality to enhance service delivery and resolve operational challenges.

Emergency Response and Operational Readiness:

Participate in an on-call rota for emergency and holiday cover, ensuring the organisation can respond swiftly to urgent supply needs.

Support other managers and cover essential duties in their absence, demonstrating flexibility and reliability in emergency situations.

Appropriate managerial/business administration qualification

Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD)

Experience required:

Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

Familiarity with regulatory compliance and quality assurance processes

Experience with procurement and stock management

Proficient in all core aspects of Microsoft Office applications

Proven experience in logistics and supply chain management, preferably in the veterinary or related healthcare sectors.

Full UK Driving licence

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team

Excellent organisational and strategic planning abilities, with a keen eye for detail

Ability to handle high pressure situations and complex logistical challenges with a solutions-oriented approach
