Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Cook on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

Main purpose of position:

Responsible for all activities involved in the preparation and cooking of meals, including the provision of special dietary meals. Supporting the Domestic

You will be responsible to:

  • Prepare, cook and produce food and drink as directed using agreed methods, industrial kitchen equipment and using fresh food and convenience food commodities (e.g. freeze-dried, dehydrated etc.), including the production of fast foods and unusual dishes including the production of fast foods and unusual dishes, ensuring the children and young people have balanced and nutritional meals whilst providing variety and choice.
  • Maintain all kitchen areas, equipment, crockery and utensils, in line with agreed Health and Safety standards/ LBC procedures, including "in-depth" cleaning, using specialised methods and products covered by COSHH. Support the Domestic in the maintenance of the cleaning of the rest of the building.
  • Menu preparation, portion control and ordering supplies.
  • Deputise for the Cook in Charge as necessary.
  • Maintain all related administrative records in line with OFSTED and other legislative requirements e.g. menus, cleaning schedules.

Skills and Experience:

  • Some experience of working in an industrial cooking environment
  • Able to order food and monitor stock levels and contribute to menu planning
  • Able to carry out domestic duties within the building
  • Able to deal with a wide range of people within and outside the hub including young people with additional needs, suppliers/equipment manufacturers
  • Able to work on own initiative and as a team member
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements for children
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Able to lift/move and handle, using lifting aids, if appropriate (after training) in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • Able to work and share bank holiday and weekend working with the Cook in Charge
