Purchasing Assistant

Our client in Luton is looking for a sharp and driven Purchasing Assistant to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of supplier relationships, hone your negotiation skills, and play a key role in our client's success. You'll be at the heart of the purchasing process, managing a high volume of communications and building valuable connections with suppliers to secure the best deals.

If you're confident on the phone, excel under pressure, and have a knack for numbers (especially in Excel!), this could be the perfect step to grow your career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the purchasing team to source, request quotes and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Assist in the creation, processing and updating of purchase orders on the SAGE system.
  • Maintain and check accurate records of purchases, pricing and delivery information.
  • Monitor inventory levels and participate in inventory control activities.
  • Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Support the supply chain by liaising with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Assist in evaluating supplier performance and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Help source new and existing products from abroad and the UK
  • Liaise with the Operations team to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained of main core product lines
  • Update internal systems regarding product pricing, producing reports/spread sheets as and when required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a purchasing or procurement role.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and systems like SAGE, or similar platforms, would be beneficial but is not critical as full training will be provided.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable terms with suppliers.
  • Competent in all Microsoft Applications including Excel.
  • Knowledge of logistics and inventory management principles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills to interact with suppliers and internal teams efficiently.
