- Complete professional assessments of need and risk for service users and carers, following the Department of Health and local authority criteria for children in need and those at risk of significant harm. Take the lead role in coordinating a multi-agency approach to prevent and address child protection issues and assist children in need.
- Undertake statutory duties under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation and guidance, including care proceedings, arrangements for adoption/permanency, and risk assessments related to child protection. This includes obtaining and carrying out Court Orders, attending court as the Council's representative, and providing instructions to legal counsel.
- Plan professional interventions using appropriate resources to ensure that needs are met through negotiation and consultation with professional colleagues and service users. Promote anti-discriminatory practices and empower service users.
- Maintain appropriate case records, statistics, and information. Provide case reports and witness statements for court when required, ensuring compliance with both internal and external agency requirements in line with local authority policies and procedures.
- Ability to make professional judgements in a multi-disciplinary setting.
- Experience working with complex and challenging cases involving issues of vulnerability and risk, with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, with the ability to work effectively with service users, including children, and a wide range of other professionals.
- Competence in maintaining high-quality records and writing clear, concise reports and correspondence on complex issues.
- Ability to represent the agency in court or similar settings.
