An exciting opportunity has arisen in the School of Engineering for a full time Lecturer in Motor Vehicle based at our Construction and Engineering Campus in Luton.

The successful candidate will teach across a variety of Motor Vehicle courses, which includes full time IMI Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 courses.

You will be able to deliver engaging and interactive theory sessions that will motivate learners and link to industry, along with delivering practical sessions in a workshop.

You will put Teaching, Learning and Assessment at the forefront of everything you do and aspire to excellence in all areas of work. The successful candidate will value the learner experience and will be a strong role model for our learners.

The ideal candidate will be highly effective at managing time, meeting deadlines and must be confident that they can contribute to and improve the team.

You will need to hold appropriate professional qualifications and have at least 5 years of experience in the motor vehicle industry. Holding a teaching qualification is desirable but not essential as training and the chance to achieve a teaching qualification whilst working for with our client this will be provided. Assessor and/or IQA qualifications would be advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage student's learning during the class contact period as required by the Head of School, Course Leader and course validating body, to provide an efficient learning programme for the students.
  • Plan and prepare the learning programme and appropriate materials in advance of classes, to ensure the content is interesting, stimulating, and relevant.
  • Liaise with other members of the course team to ensure an integrated approach to the course programme, including attendance at course team and other meetings, as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the students understand the aims and objectives of the course.
  • Assess the student's learning needs in order that the stated course aims, and objectives are met.
  • Monitor and assess student's performance in order to help and encourage them to achieve the set objectives.
  • Set and mark assignments and course work, including work to be undertaken outside the class time; collect, mark, and return such work to the students within a reasonable period of time.
  • Keep a record of work completed by each class and maintain an effective individual record for each student.
  • Provide appropriate educational counselling and guidance for students.
  • Mark the register for each class meeting, maintain it and complete it as required at the end of the course.
  • Complete student and course reports and other records as may be required by the Head of School or Course Leader.
  • Set and mark examination papers or other assessment processes.
  • Be responsible for the safety and conduct of students attending the class.
  • Supervise support staff directly supporting the class.
  • Be responsible for the safe care and use of all site equipment supplied for the use of the class. Report any damage or loss promptly in writing to the Head of School.
  • Attend staff development activities and other meetings as may be required.
  • Be familiar with Safeguarding requirements as outlined in the Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to promote the principle of equality and diversity in employment and service delivery:
