The School and Role
An Alternative Provision school based in New Milton are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible. The school caters for primary and secondary pupils aged 6 - 16 years with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, ASD, and various other needs including trauma, school phobia Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD).Â
The successful Support Assistant will be required to work 1-1 with pupils, assisting them academically as well as overcoming barriers to learning and supporting them emotionally. An SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting primary and secondary age pupils with varying needs. Their primary responsibilities include providing individualised support to help students engage in learning, manage their emotions, and develop social skills. They work closely with teachers to implement tailored interventions and strategies, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. The SEMH Teaching Assistant fosters positive relationships, encouraging pupils to express themselves and build confidence. Additionally, they may assist in behaviour management, facilitate small group activities, and communicate effectively with parents and specialists to promote holistic development. Their empathetic approach is crucial in helping students navigate challenges and achieve their educational goals.
RequirementsÂ
The desired Teaching Assistant will have;
- Experience of working with primary and/or secondary school aged children
- Experience of working with pupils with SEND/SEMH
- A passion for the progress of pupils
- An ability to work as part of a team
