Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Job Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to respond to breakdowns and maintain site-wide mechanical systems. The primary goal is to minimize engineering downtime while providing continuous improvement support.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform all mechanical engineering activities safely and professionally, ensuring compliance with current legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct planned maintenance, breakdown response, and statutory checks.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Team Leader to prioritize workload and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Work as part of the engineering team, especially during night shifts, to minimize downtime and prioritize critical tasks.
  • Complete shift reports detailing completed work and outstanding issues.
  • Be available for additional hours to address emergency situations.
  • Improve machine availability and reliability.
  • Manage contractors, including induction and permits, ensuring safe and compliant work on-site.
  • Adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies, utilizing permit-to-work and isolation systems when working on mechanical systems.
  • Ensure that all mechanical equipment can be safely isolated according to legislation and best engineering practices.
  • Participate in an on-call system for mechanical fault response outside normal working hours.
  • Contribute to business-related projects, both engineering and non-engineering.

Collaboration is key, as the candidate must be a strong team player while also being able to work independently and flexibly.

Key Requirements:

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Hands-on breakdown experience
  • Understanding of mechanical and general health & safety standards

Desirable Knowledge & Experience:

  • Familiarity with the paper coating industry
  • Knowledge of company products and manufacturing processes

Essential Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical fault-finding skills
  • Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings
  • Good computer skills
  • Understanding of pneumatic & hydraulic systems

Desirable Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Experience with work maintenance systems
  • Basic electrical knowledge

Qualifications:

  • ONC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • City & Guilds Class Level 1
  • First Aid Certificate (preferred)
  • Forklift and scissor lift license (preferred)
