Lead Commissioning Engineer - Clean Water Project

We are seeking a skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to join a growing team working on a Clean Water project in Burham. This pivotal role involves ensuring that water treatment and distribution systems are installed, tested, and optimised in line with operational standards and regulatory requirements. You will lead a team of Commissioning Engineers, ensuring the project transitions from construction to operational status smoothly and safely, meeting all quality and safety standards before handover.



The Role

You will oversee commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for water supply systems, including package plant, pumping stations, process streams, and bespoke treatment solutions. Leading a team, you will coordinate with project teams and ensure compliance with industry standards throughout the commissioning process.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and review CMDP commissioning plans and procedures specific to water supply systems, ensuring integration of package plant, pumping stations, and treatment solutions.
  • Coordinate with design, construction, and operational teams to ensure a smooth transition during commissioning.
  • Oversee inspections and verify equipment and system installations in line with statutory, design, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Lead testing procedures including pressure testing, functional testing, and performance assessments for various systems.
  • Manage FAT and SAT processes, as well as conduct witness tests.
  • Monitor water processes through SCADA systems, identify issues, and respond accordingly.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental legislation is followed during commissioning activities.
  • Prepare commissioning documentation and reports for meetings, keeping a record of compliance and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including contractors and regulators, to ensure approvals and inspections are obtained.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of SCO's (Safe Control of Operations) and contribute to the Water Quality Risk Assessment (WQRA).
  • Lead progress meetings and distribute daily logs, ensuring clear communication of commissioning updates.
  • Support the development of junior team members, including apprentices and assistant commissioning engineers.


What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer with a strong background in electrical/ICA commissioning, particularly within the water sector. The ideal candidate will be organised, able to manage and prioritise tasks effectively, and skilled in risk identification and mitigation.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in electrical/ICA commissioning, preferably within water supply or treatment projects.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information, data, and trends.
  • Excellent communication and team coordination abilities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with SCADA and telemetry systems.

Preferred:

  • Experience in overseeing commissioning for complex water supply systems.
  • Familiarity with Safe Control of Operations (SCO) and Water Quality Risk Assessment (WQRA).
