Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Materials Buyer to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials required for our residential construction projects, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency. This role is critical to maintaining project schedules and budget controls, while ensuring the highest standards of quality are met.

Key Responsibilities

Material Sourcing & Procurement:

  • Identify, source, and procure materials required for housing construction projects.
  • Ensure materials meet quality standards and project specifications.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.

Negotiation & Cost Control:

  • Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings.
  • Monitor market trends and material price fluctuations to optimize procurement strategies.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting material costs for new and ongoing projects.

Logistics & Delivery Management:

  • Coordinate material deliveries to ensure they align with project timelines and site requirements.
  • Resolve any supply chain issues, delays, or discrepancies promptly.

Supplier & Contract Management:

  • Manage supplier performance and maintain an approved supplier database.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety regulations, and sustainability goals.
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders, contracts, and procurement documentation.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with site managers, project teams, and subcontractors to understand material requirements.
  • Provide regular updates to the commercial and project teams regarding procurement status.

Skills & Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree or qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a buying/procurement role within the housing construction sector.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, specifications, and supply chain processes in residential projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Understanding of construction contracts, terms, and relevant legislation.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
