The Role:As an External Audit Senior, you will be responsible for leading audits from planning through to completion, supervising junior team members, and delivering high-quality service to clients. You will play a key role in ensuring audit assignments are executed effectively and within deadlines, while building and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading external audit assignments from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with audit standards.
  • Conducting risk assessments and identifying areas of audit focus.
  • Preparing and reviewing audit work papers and financial statements under UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • Liaising directly with clients, acting as their main point of contact during the audit process.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior auditors, providing guidance as needed.
  • Managing multiple audit assignments and ensuring they are delivered within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Reviewing internal controls and identifying areas for improvement within client businesses.
  • Preparing reports and presenting audit findings to senior management and clients.
  • Staying up to date with developments in audit regulations and accounting standards.
  • Assisting with the ongoing development and improvement of audit processes and methodologies.

Requirements:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with at least 3 years' experience in external audit within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks (UK GAAP, IFRS).
  • Proven experience managing audits from planning to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff members.
  • Proficiency in audit and accounting software, such as CaseWare, Xero, or Sage.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify risk areas within an audit.
