About the Role

We're seeking an exceptional leader to join as Head of Airport Fire Service (Chief Fire Officer). This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the UK's largest airport fire services at a major international airport.

Operating at the highest Aerodrome Fire Category (Category 10), you'll be responsible for leading a team of 87 dedicated professionals who provide critical emergency response services across our complex dual-runway airport, serving approximately 30 million passengers annually.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a fully effective Emergency Fire & Rescue Service that protects life and property while ensuring compliance with aerodrome licensing requirements
  • Direct all aspects of the Airport Fire Service, including recruitment, training, financial management, and regulatory compliance
  • Provide strategic leadership during major incidents as a key member of the airport Incident Management Team
  • Develop and implement workforce strategies that ensure operational requirements are met while creating an engaged and diverse team
  • Manage an annual operating budget exceeding 7m and oversee assets valued at over 8m
  • Lead the continuous development of safety management systems and ensure total compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Maintain effective working relationships with external emergency services and regulatory bodies


What We're Looking For

  • Substantial fire service experience with proven expertise in airport or aviation firefighting
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing large-scale teams
  • Demonstrable track record of developing and implementing strategic plans
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
  • Experience operating within an airport environment or other complex operational/emergency services setting
  • Excellence in stakeholder management and ability to influence at all levels
  • Valid UK Full Driving Licence
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, particularly under pressure
  • Ability to meet and maintain medical and physical assessment standards
