Role Overview:

Gleeson Recruitment Group are pleased to be working exclusively with a leading logistics business on their search for a commercially astute Commercial Finance Analyst to join their growing finance team. This role provides a fantastic opportunity to work closely with multiple departments, offering critical financial insights and analysis to support business decision-making. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing and manipulating large volumes of data, delivering meaningful insights to help drive operational efficiency and business profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Analysis & Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed financial analysis, including trend analysis, variance analysis, and performance reports to monitor and drive business performance.
    • Work closely with operational teams to provide commercial insights into financial results and operational efficiencies.
    • Develop and present financial reports to senior management, ensuring that key metrics and KPIs are accurately tracked and explained.
  • Forecasting & Budgeting:
    • Assist in the preparation and management of annual budgets, forecasts, and rolling financial projections, ensuring alignment with business strategy and objectives.
    • Update and monitor financial forecasts, providing insights into any significant changes or risks to business performance.
  • Business Partnering:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Operations, Sales, and Commercial) to provide financial insight and challenge assumptions in strategic decision-making.
    • Assist in evaluating new business opportunities, contracts, and pricing models, ensuring financial risks and opportunities are considered.
  • Profitability & Cost Management:
    • Analyse the financial performance of individual contracts, projects, and business units to assess profitability and efficiency.
    • Provide insights and recommendations for cost control measures and margin improvements.
  • Data Management & Analysis:
    • Manage and manipulate large sets of financial and operational data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for the business.
    • Use data-driven insights to assist in strategic decision-making and improve overall business performance.
    • Ensure data accuracy and integrity while preparing complex financial models and reports.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement improvements in financial reporting, analysis, and processes to ensure greater efficiency and accuracy.
    • Support the automation of key financial processes and the development of streamlined financial reporting tools.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects & Analysis:
    • Take on special financial analysis projects as required by the business, providing key insights for decision-making.
    • Support the finance team with ad-hoc reporting and project-based financial analysis.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualifications & Experience:
    • A professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent, or working towards qualification.
    • Proven experience in a financial analyst role, preferably within the logistics, supply chain, or similar industries.
    • Solid understanding of financial concepts, financial modelling, and forecasting.
    • Experience with financial reporting and analysis using advanced Excel (Power BI skills would be advantageous).
    • Experience handling, managing, and manipulating large datasets to extract relevant business insights.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex financial data.
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with a deep understanding of financial modelling techniques and data management.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Commercially focused, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence decision-making across the business.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • A proactive, self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
