I am working on a retained basis to recruit of Head of Finance for one of Manchester’s leading business-membership organisations. Established for 30 years my client is at the heart of the private-public partnership that makes Manchester such a thriving city. With funding that comes from business memberships my client is a not-for-profit organisation that is extremely interesting, rewarding and valuable.

The Head of Finance will lead on financial matters across the two companies. They are responsible to the Chief Exec and to the board of the companies for sound financial management; providing timely advice and analysis to enable effective oversight of company finances and adherence to company financial policies.

A member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Finance will lead a team of three and provide advice and support across the management team and the entire company. They are responsible for ensuring that policies reflect the needs of the company, and enable company employees to undertake their duties effectively, while being flexible and approachable in dealing with problems and issues that staff face.

Working closely with other senior managers, the successful candidate will develop annual budgets, provide regular reports and reviews, ensuring the ever-changing nature of the businesses work is supported by sound fundamentals. You will also work with auditors to ensure prompt delivery of annual accounts, report directly to finance and main boards of the companies.

The right candidate will have:

  • Experience in leading financial teams in not-for-profit, charity, membership-organization or related areas.
  • Developing, managing and reconciling management accounts, preferably across multiple companies
  • Handling statutory authorities, HMRC and VAT processes.
  • Managing the audit process, end of year checks, reconciliations and effective response to queries.
  • Experience in dealing with finance and main boards, in presenting financial reports and responding to enquiries.
  • Managing pension, payroll and benefit schemes.
  • Experience in working as part of a senior management team
  • Ability to be flexible and proactive in dealing with issues
  • Experience in membership organizations, Company Secretarial duties would also be a bonus but not essential
  • Experience of managing reconciliations across multiple companies.
  • Working with councils or other areas the public sector would be useful
