JOB TITLE: PARALEGAL - RESIDENTIAL CONVEYANCING - Hybrid

LOCATION: Manchester City Centre

HOURS OF WORK: 9 am - 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday

Due to organic growth and ongoing success, our client is seeking a Residential Conveyancing Paralegal to join their team in Manchester City Centre. The successful candidate will provide essential support to Fee Earners, handling sales and purchases properties while ensuring a high standard of client care. If you are a motivated and organised Paralegal and want to join a busy residential development team and are in the process of studying for your LLM or LPC or if you already possess the qualification, we will welcome your CV.

This is a hands-on role! The successful candidate will need to be organised and efficient and able to work well in a team environment. The role is client-facing, and therefore, the candidate must have excellent communication skills.

Primary Purpose of the role:

Reporting directly to a fee earner or fee earners, provide support to them and the team as directed

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assisting a solicitor with caseloads of residential Sales, Purchases, re-mortgages, Auctions, New leases and title splits, New builds and Conversions, transfers of equity, Buy to Let, Help to buy, from instruction by the client to completion with potential for assisting in purchase and refinance transactions
  • Preparing file opening forms and amending the initial letters to send to clients
  • Closing files on Case Manager and ensuring that the paper file is also opened or closed. Being on top of archiving and making sure the electronic and physical post is kept up-to-date and tidy
  • Maintaining a high level of client care and service, to ensure we continue to build great relationships with our clients.
  • Updating solicitors and/or partners in the team on the progression of all matters on a regular basis;
  • Drafting and amending relevant documents, i.e. Contracts, Transfer Deeds;
  • Undertaking various searches for each property and checking the results of the searches for any adverse information;
  • Completing all relevant checklists;
  • Ensuring that requisite documents are signed on completion, i.e. legal charge, declaration of mortgagee(s), transfer deeds;
  • Attending to post-completion formalities, undertaking all registrations and dealing with any issues raised as a result;
  • Anti-money laundering checks include checking on the firm’s database if already a current client or if new client is requesting the relevant identification by sending a letter or telephone call asking for the information;
  • Chasing up clients, lenders and other solicitors to ensure the progression of each matter and that deadlines are met by using the electronic diary;
  • On occasions, helping the Registrations Department with post-completion of files on all matters in the Commercial Property department;
  • Responsible for own time recording;
  • Preparing bills and completion statements using the client ledgers on the Case Management System.
  • General administration, i.e. photocopying and filing;

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

The skills required to undertake the above job description are as follows:-

  • Minimum experience of 12 months in Commercial Property or Residential Conveyancing
  • Legal background, with a knowledge of the conveyancing process of sales and purchase transactions;
  • Exceptional organisational skills to manage workload and understand how to prioritise.
  • Good IT skills, i.e. as Word and Outlook;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good telephone manners;
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines;
  • Self-motivated;
  • Ability to work in a planned and organised way, but can multitask
  • Professional approach
  • Knowledge of legal Case Management systems.
