About the Role

Reporting to the Transport Manager, the main purpose of this Night Transport Operations Manager role is to ensure the seamless, day-to-day operations of the Transport and Goods Dispatch functions, overseeing all aspects to maintain efficiency and timely service.

Hours of work: 5 nights per week, Sunday - Thursday, 20:00 - 06:00hrs. Additional flexibility may be required to meet the demands of the business.

To be successful in this Night Transport Operations Manager role, we require someone with a friendly personality and the ability to develop good working relationships across the business and manage and develop their team.



Main Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Vehicle Dispatch Management - Ensure the efficient coordination and loading of vehicles, with a focus on prioritising routes and managing workload to guarantee timely deliveries, and work closely with the Order Makeup team to enhance and streamline vehicle dispatch times with the goal of continuous process improvement.
  • Team Leadership and Management - Provide day-to-day leadership of drivers and the night dispatch team operating out of the Irlam depot, including managing staff rotas, overseeing holidays, conducting team training and development, building team cohesion and handling disciplinary actions when necessary to maintain high operational standards.
  • Incident Management and Communication - Act as the point of contact for any overnight incidents, vehicle breakdowns, or operational challenges and communicate effectively with internal departments to ensure a swift resolution and minimise any disruptions to the business.
  • Daily Reporting - Provide regular updates and comprehensive reports to the Transport Manager to maintain transparency and to address any operational issues, ensuring continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Security Oversight - Take full responsibility for the security and integrity of the dispatch bays, rear yard, and all fleet vehicles, ensuring that both personnel and assets are safeguarded.

  • Reach and/or Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence
