ETHICAL & SUSTAINABILITY PACKAGING MANAGER | ECOM & RETAIL | INTERNATIONAL RETAILER | HYBRID | UP TO £90,000Working for one of the most recognisable retailers in The UK with one of the best product functions in the country, this is a great opportunity for an experienced ethical and sustainability manager, to strengthen their CV by getting this brand on there!Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure consistency in packaging across the organization, including design, functionality, sourcing, production, delivery, and in-store presentation.
  • Guarantee that all packaging is suitable for its intended purpose while utilizing cost-effective methods to meet waste reduction goals.
  • Review and uphold the business' supplier policies and code of conduct to ensure alignment with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and relevant legislation.
  • Proactively assess potential risks to Human Rights within the supply chain, fostering a culture of awareness and risk mitigation.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports, data, and KPIs to measure compliance performance, assisting sourcing and product teams in supplier and factory selection.
  • Evaluate and, if necessary, revise the current factory auditing process to ensure all tiers of the supply base consistently meet the business' Ethical Standards.
  • Establish a clear process for addressing non-compliance with the business' Ethical Standards, ensuring suppliers are aware of the implications of non-adherence.
  • Build strong relationships and serve as the primary contact for external stakeholders, ethical organisations (e.g., ETI, International Accord), NGOs, campaigners, and trade unions.
  • Contribute to the annual Corporate Responsibility/Environmental, Social, and Governance (CR/ESG) reports.
  • Develop and manage relationships with global packaging suppliers.
  • Assess and evaluate supplier capabilities, focusing on quality, pricing, reliability, and delivery terms.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts and pricing agreements.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control Hubs to address packaging quality issues, investigating any instances of counterfeit or non-compliant packaging.
  • Conduct regular store and competitor visits to identify innovative packaging opportunities.
  • Lead and develop the sustainability strategy focused on plastic reduction.
  • Manage the collection and submission of packaging waste
  • Inspire and engage team members to foster a high-performance culture.
Personal Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Senior Leader in Ethical, Sustainability and/or Packaging sectors.
  • Outstanding negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships internally and externally
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks, stakeholders, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to present information and analysis clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation related to packaging waste.
