Hours: 35 hours Monday-Friday

Reed is working with a large Manchester based educational organisation in their search for an experienced Compliance Officer to support their rapidly growing established team

Overall Purpose of the Job:

To be the key individual responsible for developing and managing systems for assurance and compliance in relation to various aspects of chemical usage, waste management, export controls, National Security and Investment Act and other key areas of compliance. To provide a web content, e-learning development and project management support service to colleagues across Compliance & Risk.

Some of the required skills:

  • Knowledge of the academic research environment
  • Awareness of the legislation and regulations associated with the safe procurement, management and disposal of regulated substances, including the DGSA role, trade compliance and governance issues.
  • Experience of briefing senior managers and reporting to senior staff/committees in an accurate and succinct manner
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet externally imposed deadlines
  • Be able to work flexibly under pressure
  • Awareness of legislation and regulations associated with the use of chemicals in research
  • A willingness to undertake the DGSA qualification
  • A willingness to undertake training to fill any gaps in knowledge and experience

Desirable criteria:

  • A first degree in engineering (preferred) or chemistry or a life/physical science
  • Education and/or certifications in export compliance
