I'm working with a forward-thinking company in Manchester, looking for a Team Lead to manage and mentor a small, dedicated team responsible for maintaining and improving a fleet of VPN servers. This role offers a competitive salary of £70,000 - £90,000, hybrid working, and the opportunity to lead a talented engineering team working on high-performance networking solutions.

The Role

As Team Lead, you'll oversee a team of engineers, working alongside the Tech Lead and Engineering Manager to develop, optimize, and maintain a fleet of VPN servers that support critical business operations. You'll take ownership of workload management, team mentoring, and planning, ensuring smooth operations and best-in-class performance.

Your role will involve contributing to software development, implementing automation tools like Puppet and Terraform, and working with PHP/Laravel and JavaScript/TypeScript with Angular for supporting systems.

After a settling-in period, you'll have the option to join the on-call rota (with additional compensation).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a small, specialized team of engineers
  • Plan workstreams with the Tech Lead & Engineering Manager
  • Manage and maintain a fleet of VPN servers for optimal performance
  • Interpret software development specifications & design documents
  • Write high-quality application code and tests
  • Contribute to system architecture and automation processes
  • Ensure adherence to security, quality, and safety policies
About You

We're looking for a leader with:

  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills
  • High level of self-organization and adaptability
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to research solutions
  • PHP (Laravel) & JavaScript/TypeScript (Angular or Vue.js) experience
  • Ability to manage and motivate a small team

Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • API integration for cloud server management
