Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Teacher to join our vibrant and supportive team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SEN, possess the ability to create tailored lesson plans, and be dedicated to providing a positive and inclusive learning experience for students with a variety of learning needs. As an SEN Teacher, you will work closely with students, parents, and support staff to ensure that each child receives the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Planning:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons tailored to the specific needs of students with a range of SEN.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- Create individual education plans (IEPs) for students and track progress regularly.
- Modify and adapt the curriculum to ensure accessibility for all students.
Assessment & Monitoring:
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and adapting teaching approaches accordingly.
- Collaborate with other professionals to assess and support students educational development.
- Work closely with teaching assistants to ensure students are receiving the necessary support during lessons.
Support & Guidance:
- Provide tailored support to students both inside and outside of the classroom to help them achieve their personal and academic goals.
- Develop strong relationships with students, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support students emotional and social development, helping them build confidence and resilience.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with parents, carers, and external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, speech therapists) to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices for SEN education.
- Contribute to the schools culture of inclusion, sharing knowledge and resources with colleagues.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A specialist qualification in Special Educational Needs (e.g., SENCo qualification, or relevant SEN experience).
- Strong understanding of different learning needs and experience with students with a range of disabilities and conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience working in a similar SEN teaching role, preferably within primary or secondary education.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to teaching.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with specific learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or physical disabilities.
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT) and its applications in the classroom.
- Additional SEN-related certifications or training.
