Job Title: Company Accountant
Location: Derby
Salary: From £45,000 per annum + (Competitive) Annual Bonus, Benefits Package
Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Friday 8:00 AM - 1:15 PM (37.5 hours per week)
Hybrid Working: Available after training (1-2 days per week)
The Role:
Reporting directly to the Managing Director and Directors, you will be responsible for running the accounts department and ensuring all internal and external deadlines are met, including statutory returns for HMRC. This is a varied, all-encompassing role that requires a hands-on approach, managing the financial operations, HR, payroll, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Management: Oversee the accounts department, ensuring smooth operation and adherence to deadlines, including all statutory returns to HMRC.
- Financial Reporting: Produce monthly and annual management information for internal and external stakeholders.
- Cashflow & Bank Management: Manage cash flow, bank balances, and receivables finance while liaising with bank managers.
- Expense & Credit Card Oversight: Manage company expenses and credit card procedures.
- HR & Payroll: Lead HR and payroll functions, ensuring compliance with current guidelines.
- Policy & Administration Support: Assist the MD with administration and policy management, including Pension, Insurance, Utilities, PMI, Life Assurance, Rates, and Alarm renewals, while looking for cost-saving opportunities.
- R&D Returns: Collate R&D information for annual returns.
- Budget & Pay Reviews: Manage budgets, pay reviews, and the bonus scheme.
- Lease & Rent Management: Handle rent reviews and lease renewals, liaising with financial advisors and Trustees.
- Board Meetings: Attend and contribute to board meetings.
- Inter-Company Administration: Oversee inter-company administration, including monthly admin charges.
- Foreign Currency Management: Manage foreign currency purchases and reconciliations.
- Exporting/Importing: Assist with exporting and importing processes, including understanding Incoterms, tariffs, and ensuring correct documentation for HMRC.
- Fixed Asset Management: Oversee fixed asset management processes.
- System Implementation: Assist with the implementation of new financial systems.
- Stock Control Support: Collaborate with department heads and support stock control processes.
- External Audits: Manage external audits and oversee the collation of information.
- GDPR Compliance: Ensure compliance with GDPR regulations.
The Ideal Candidate:
- A qualified or part-qualified accountant (Level 2 AAT or higher).
- Experience in a similar all-rounder accountancy role within a manufacturing environment is advantageous.
- Strong experience in HR and payroll management.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively across departments.
- A self-starter, proactive and confident in managing financial operations.
- Experience with foreign currency management, R&D tax returns, and audit coordination is beneficial.
- Familiar with current tax legislation, statutory returns, and compliance.
- Comfortable working in a family-owned business with long-standing employees and a close-knit team.
Team Dynamic:
The accounts department has long-standing staff members, so you will be joining a highly experienced, stable team. You will report directly to the Managing Director and Directors and will manage a team of 3: a Sales Ledger, an Accounts Ledger, and an Accounts Assistant.
