Reed are collaborating with a School in Derby who are looking for a Chef to ensure the prompt and efficient preparation and service of all meals within budget and to the required standards. This role is crucial in adhering to specific dietary requirements of children and young adults, providing advice on food preparation, regulatory standards, and dietary considerations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Plan and prepare menus within budget, ensuring dietary requirements and preferences are considered.
  • Cook and serve meals and snacks at required times to the required standard, adhering to menu plans, recipes, ingredients, and portion control.
  • Manage and develop a small team, fostering a high-performance culture through motivation and engagement.
  • Maintain strict adherence to health and safety, food hygiene, and other regulatory standards across all sites.
  • Facilitate all kitchen-related administrative tasks including accountancy, documentation, and administration procedures.
  • Create cost-efficient staff rotas, considering the needs of the staff and operational requirements.
  • Ensure all kitchen areas and equipment are clean and fit for use, including planning deep cleans and periodic checks.
  • Organise and prepare for special functions, which may sometimes occur outside normal working hours.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing a catering environment, ideally within an educational setting dealing with complex dietary requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to food preparation, including COSHH regulations and food hygiene procedures.
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification.
  • Experience cooking for groups of 40-80 people.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing demands, with a creative approach to meal planning and preparation.
