If you are an experienced engineering manager with a strong background in leading and managing technical teams along with excellent operational management and project skills, then this could be ideal for you.

The company are a specialist in products for the rail industry so you will ideally have a background working in a similar high reliability industry where safety and attention to detail are key.

The role will involve both management of field-based teams and taking responsibility for operational management in terms of budgets, compliance with safety legislation and managing the effective delivery of large-scale projects for customers in various locations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Control budgets and understand profit & loss to contribute to the financial health of the business.
  • Deliver on business KPIs and manage budgets
  • Lead and support key personnel, including Quality, Purchasing, Engineering, Field Service Engineers, and Operations, aligning their work with business needs.
  • Motivate team members by providing support and leading by example.
  • Manage and deliver large-scale field-based projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Handle all commercial aspects with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Identify and implement training and development opportunities for individuals and the team.
  • Drive growth in the field service side of the business through strategic planning and execution.
  • Oversee health and environmental procedures to ensure compliance at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in delivering large projects across various locations.
  • HNC/HND in Engineering, Business Degree, or HND in Operations Management.
  • Background in engineering or manufacturing with lean/continuous improvement experience.
  • Proficiency with SAP or similar MRP systems.
  • Strong decision-making skills with an understanding of their impact on the business.
  • Experience in cost centre management, including forecasting, budget setting/control, and profit & loss responsibilities.
  • EHS & quality management awareness.
  • High level of commercial competence with excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional people management skills, self-motivation, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to formulate and present business reports to senior management.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
