Barker Ross is currently recruiting for a Meat Processing Operative to join a well-known company based in the Melton Mowbray area.


Job duties for this role:
Working on a modern slaughter line.
Pushing sides of meat around the slaughterhouse
Responsible for handling, processing, and packaging meat products to meet quality and safety standards.
This role requires a commitment to hygiene, attention to detail, and adherence to strict health and safety regulations.
Operatives may work with various types of meat, including beef, pork, lamb, and poultry, and perform tasks along the production line to ensure efficient and consistent production output.


Key Responsibilities
Meat Preparation: Cutting, trimming, boning, and slicing meat to specified standards.
Processing: Operating machinery used in processing and packing meat, such as grinders, mixers, and slicers.
Quality Control: Inspecting meat products to ensure they meet quality and food safety standards; discarding or reporting any products that do not meet these standards.
Packaging: Weighing, labelling, and packing meat products for distribution; ensuring packages are correctly sealed and labelled.
Sanitation and Hygiene: Cleaning and sanitizing workstations, equipment, and tools before and after use; following strict hygiene protocols to prevent contamination.
Health and Safety: Adhering to workplace safety protocols, wearing protective equipment (PPE), and following guidelines for safe handling of equipment and meat products.


Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Prior experience in a meat processing or food manufacturing environment is beneficial but not essential; training will be provided.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks in a cold environment.
Attention to Detail: Strong focus on quality and safety, with an eye for detail to ensure all products meet specified standards.
Teamwork: Able to work effectively in a team and communicate well with colleagues.
Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety regulations within a food production environment is advantageous.
Basic Numeracy and Literacy: Ability to read instructions and label products accurately.
