JN Technical are recruiting an experienced Structural Design Engineer on behalf of a national UK steel fabricator. This role offers flexible/hybrid working. As the new Structural Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering structural steelwork solutions, meeting client specifications on time and within budget. You should possess a strong understanding of engineering principles and be capable of collaborating with clients, external teams, and internal departments to develop practical engineering design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and design, producing calculations for Building Regulations submissions.
- Create detailed design sketches to communicate design intent to the drafting team, with a focus on buildability and health & safety considerations.
- Collaborate with both internal and external design teams to ensure a clear design brief and the delivery of a compliant design.
- Assess, design, and define the requirements for temporary works.
- Adhere to company operating procedures, quality assurance standards, statutory safety legislation, best practices, and contractual responsibilities in all tasks.
- Maintain comprehensive records to protect the companys interests.
- Undertake any additional tasks as required by the Design Manager.
- Take full responsibility for the technical aspects of projects and provide guidance and supervision to junior engineers.
Skills and Competencies:
Essential:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage workload effectively within tight timescales, meeting both programme and budget expectations.
Essential:
- Professionally qualified engineer with experience in structural steel projects.
- Experience in producing structural steel designs according to British Standards and/or Eurocode.
- Solid understanding of the commercial and engineering aspects of steel construction projects.
- Proficiency in industry software such as CSC Fastrak, Tekla Structural Designer, Masterframe, Tekla, and AutoCAD.
Essential:
- Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or a similar professional body, or actively working towards membership (CEng MIStructE/MICE/Mechs).
Preferred:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (2:1 or above).
