Background: Strategy and Governance, Leadership and Public/Charities Sector

This is an exciting time to be joining us as Board Members, alongside our new Chair, and CEO,. You will have the opportunity to support and guide as Willen Hospice moves into a new phase of growth and development.

Willen Hospice provides free expert care and support for local people with a life-limiting illness, and their loved ones, at what maybe the most difficult time of their lives.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for a variety of specialist experience for multiple Board roles, detailed below, alongside a passion for the provision of palliative care for patients and their families, healthcare, an understanding or interest in governance and excellent acumen and experience of strong leadership. Also, as well as specific skill and experience requirements, all trustee posts need to be active ambassadors for the charity and will be required to help further its financial objectives by having a part in things such as events, expanding the hospice's network and fundraising.

Key Roles and Responsibilities include:

Legal - The Legal Board Member will be someone who ideally has a charity sector background and is keen to use their Legal expertise and enthusiasm to improve the quality and accessibility of legal services, with a deep commitment to ensuring regulation, ensuring high professional standards to guide the direction and decision making of the organisation.

Finance - Our Finance Board Member will oversee the financial affairs of the charity and ensure that the charity's money is safe and used properly. As a qualified Finance professional, you will?provide scrutiny and oversight of the charity's financial operations and administration.

Human Resources and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion - The HR/EDI Board Member will be committed to the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and ensuring the highest standards of governance in policies and practices related to staff and volunteer engagement, employee relations, recruitment, retention, reward, and recognition as well as staff and Board Member training and development.

Clinical - The core of the Clinical Board Members responsibilities are to maintain an overview of the Charity’s clinical services and to offer advice and support to the CEO and Chair in the further development of the organisation’s clinical services. You will either hold a relevant professional qualification or have extensive clinical experience.

Commercial Retail/Business Development - The Commercial Board Member will provide input on the strategic and operational requirements of the Charity’s commercial functions. Knowledge of the management, development, and growth of retail sales, including the development of new product ranges and e-commerce is important. Equally an understanding of the fundraising landscape, identifying opportunities to develop and diversify our proposition to increase income is key.

With the rise of ageing population numbers in the region, public support, and awareness of palliative healthcare, combined with the charity’s strong growth ambitions and financial goals, these roles offer a fantastic opportunity for the right candidates.
