Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to manage and optimize technical operations at our clients manufacturing site. This 50/50 hands-on/strategic role involves leading a team of 9-10 engineers across shifts, driving performance, and ensuring smooth plant operations. This role is best suited to a Multi Skilled leader, with a good understanding of working on PLC's.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead new product development, machine start-ups, and maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate technical breakdowns and failures, ensuring quick resolution.
  • Develop and coach engineers and technicians, ensuring all staff are trained to meet company standards.
  • Oversee engineering standards, including planned maintenance and spare parts management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (PUWER, LOLER).
  • Manage plant services (chillers, compressors, etc.) and support performance data reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the Site Director in achieving business goals.
  • Monitor and control budgets to prevent overspending.

Requirements for the Engineering Manager:

  • Strong engineering background with leadership experience.
  • Minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification - Ideally HNC or HND
  • Electrical bias preferred - Must have a good understanding of PLCs
  • Background working within FMCG environments - Plastics, food, packaging etc.
  • Knowledge of maintenance systems and UK compliance regulations.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and improve plant performance.
  • Happy with the role being 50% hands on / 50% hands off
