About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team in a primary school setting. This role involves working closely with children who have additional learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and other developmental challenges. You will play a crucial role in supporting their educational and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to children with SEN.

  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities.

  • Support the emotional, social, and educational needs of students.

  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Management Plans (BMPs).

  • Encourage independence and build self-confidence in pupils.

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure student progress.

  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to relevant staff.

  • Support pupils during activities such as sensory play, physical education, and creative arts.

  • Assist with personal care needs when required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of the child.

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

  • Adapt and modify resources to meet individual learning needs.

  • Foster positive relationships and manage challenging behaviours in line with school policies.

Requirements:

  • A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

  • Minimum of 6 months' experience in a UK school setting.

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in a classroom environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children's learning and well-being.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in SEN support or childcare.

  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems.

  • Experience working with children with complex needs or learning disabilities.
