Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist environment?

Long Term Futures are supporting a unique school based in Newark, Nottinghamshire, dedicated to supporting children aged 5-19 with complex SEMH needs and other associated challenges.

About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work in a supportive team, helping students who face significant emotional and behavioural challenges. Your role will involve providing 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils access learning, develop resilience and build critical social skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver tailored learning activities for individual students or small groups.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the day, recording and reporting on developments.
  • Work closely with staff and other professionals to provide relevant information about pupils and support their learning.
  • Assist in promoting students' social and emotional well-being.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and self-esteem in students.
  • Support pupils' individual learning needs, including handwriting practice and subject delivery.
  • Ensure student engagement is documented and provide daily reports using the school's template.

What We're Looking For

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or special educational needs (SEN).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff and families.
  • A compassionate, patient approach to working with children facing significant emotional challenges.
