Head of Geography, Travel & Tourism

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Collaborate with staff to enhance the geography, travel & tourism curricula across KS3, KS4, and KS5 levels.
    • Evaluate and ensure the curricula provide a continuous framework for student learning and progression.
    • Stay updated with national developments in curriculum design and pedagogy.
  • Teaching and Learning:
    • Implement innovative teaching methods and action research techniques in geography, travel & tourism.
    • Ensure high-quality lesson planning and delivery to create a positive learning environment.
    • Monitor and enhance the quality of teaching alongside the team.
  • Assessment and Recording:
    • Conduct accurate assessments that inform and enhance future learning.
    • Monitor student progress, providing necessary interventions and support.
    • Deliver detailed assessment reports to students, parents, and school leaders.
  • Student Personal Development and Well-being:
    • Promote excellent student engagement, attendance, and punctuality.
    • Contribute to students’ personal development through extracurricular activities.
    • Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies to ensure a safe educational environment.
  • Management of Staff and Resources:
    • Manage and mentor geography, travel & tourism department staff.
    • Efficiently allocate departmental resources to maximise student achievement.
    • Support the recruitment and professional development of new staff.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Foster positive relationships within the school community and with external stakeholders.
    • Engage with parents and the local community to enhance learning outcomes and opportunities for students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in leading a geography, travel & tourism department.
