A leading UK construction consultancy is seeking a dedicated Principal Designer (Building Safety Act) to join their team in Newcastle. This consultancy is renowned for delivering high-quality projects worth over £20 million whilst maintaining industry-leading standards.

The Principal Designer's Role

The successful Principal Designer will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and managing design risk across diverse projects. You will work closely with clients, design teams, and contractors across sectors such as healthcare, residential and higher education to provide expert advice and ensure health and safety considerations are integrated throughout the design and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on and ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Managing design risk and integrating health and safety considerations into the design process
  • Coordinating with clients, designers, and contractors to meet project requirements
  • Conducting design reviews and providing guidance on best practices
  • Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information and health and safety files

The Principal Designer:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g., architecture, engineering, construction management)
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a Principal Designer role within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2023 and health and safety standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
