As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager with specific expertise in Horizontal Drilling to ensure the safety, health, and compliance of our projects. This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in managing safety protocols across multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Role Overview:
The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing and enforcing health and safety standards across all site operations, with a specific focus on projects involving Horizontal Drilling. You will lead efforts to ensure that all work complies with safety regulations, reduce risk, and foster a strong safety culture across the team. Your role will involve continuous monitoring of site activities, conducting safety audits, training staff, and liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with health and safety laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures for Horizontal Drilling operations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide expert guidance on risk management strategies, especially in relation to Horizontal Drilling activities.
  • Deliver safety training and induction programs for new staff and subcontractors, ensuring the correct use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Advise senior management on health and safety performance, risk levels, and safety-related issues across the business.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry safety standards and legal requirements, ensuring the company stays compliant with all local and national regulations.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture on all projects, encouraging the identification of hazards and fostering continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Manage the preparation of safety reports, incident reports, and compliance documentation for regulatory bodies and clients.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and review safe work procedures and method statements, especially for complex Horizontal Drilling operations.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in health and safety management, preferably within the construction or civil engineering sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and standards, including those specific to Horizontal Drilling and utility installation.
  • Experience working with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations and an understanding of the associated risks and safety protocols.
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or equivalent (Essential).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage all levels of staff on safety matters.
  • Proven track record of delivering safety training and creating safety awareness among workers and subcontractors.
  • Experience in accident investigation, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential hazards before they become issues.
  • Proficiency with safety management software and reporting tools.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel to different project sites as needed.
