Zenith people are working with an organisation that are currently looking for experienced Manual Milling machinists based in Newcastle for a 3-month contract.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Design Unit with the manufacture, assembly, and operation of test machines.
  • Work with the Design Unit Technician Supervisor, Engineers, and Research staff to plan and manage equipment construction, setup, and use.
  • Help maintain and clean manufacturing machines, test facilities, and laboratories.
  • Complete weekly timesheets to track activities and ensure safety.
  • Assist in developing, building, and calibrating experimental equipment, especially using CNC machines for gear production and measurement.
  • Set up and ensure the safety and accuracy of high-power gear test machines, ensuring everything is ready for tests related to research, teaching, and industry projects.

Requirements

  • Organisational, planning, prioritisation of work and communication skills.
  • Appropriate practical and conceptual technical skills.
  • HNC or other equivalent qualification in a manufacturing or other appropriate engineering subject; or can demonstrate significant work experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm and ability to work under own initiative.
  • Experience of CAD/CAM processes.
  • Experience in a technical role involved in the production and assembly of precision engineering artefacts.
  • Thorough working knowledge of relevant health and safety procedures.
  • Must be prepared to undertake Design Unit training in the Gear Geometry, Gear Metrology, Instrumentation and Gear Failure Analysis and apply this knowledge to the job role.
  • Must be willing to work on-site at client premises carrying out machine assembly and commissioning activities when required in the UK and abroad.
  • Uses initiative to sort things out, is enterprising in effective use of material, financial and human resources.
  • Communicating regularly; team meetings, 1-1's, informal discussions/chats, briefing sessions etc.
