Oracle Database Administrator

Rate - £500 - £575 Inside IR35 (Total to umbrella)

Duration - 6 months

Location - Remote working (Some requirement into Glasgow or Newcastle for workshops)

A client of ours within the Financial Services space is looking for an experienced Oracle DBA consultant to join them on a 6 month initial contract with limited time on site in Glasgow or Newcastle (On site for workshops).

You would be required to:

  • Provide effective and proactive database support & maintenance for many of the bank's critical production services, which spans across multiple database technologies (predominately Oracle & SQL Server).
  • Provide database administrative support and guidance in the shape of:
    • Database lifecycle support (provisioning / deletion / patching / upgrading / migrating)
    • Back-up and Recovery
    • Monitoring and Alerting
    • Change and Incident Management
    • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving
    • Tuning and Optimisation
    • Disaster Recovery
  • Collaborate with other teams and escalating where necessary to Lead Database Engineers to ensure operational issues are resolved within agreed SLAs.

Required skills:

  • A strong understanding and experience of database administration (across Oracle and SQL Server)
  • Ability to troubleshoot Production issues in an analytical manner and make recommendations to resolve issues and/or deliver enhancements.
  • Experience of undertaking database builds, patching, migrations and upgrades.
  • Experience of High Availability and Disaster Recovery Methods including setup, troubleshooting and support - Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, ASM, Oracle Data Guard & SQL Server Always on High Availability.
  • Database Performance Tuning and Optimisation skills.
  • Experience of using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Oracle / Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris Operating System experience.
  • To display collaborative behaviours and excellent verbal / written communication skills.
  • ITIL Service Management awareness (Incident, Change & Problem Management processes).
