SEND Mentor

We are seeking a Specialist Study Skills Mentor to provide one-to-one support to students, helping them develop academic competencies such as organisation, exam preparation, research techniques, and memory skills. This role is crucial in promoting independent learning and empowering students to manage their workload effectively.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Work with students on a one-to-one basis to develop academic skills.
  • Deliver literacy support in areas such as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and presentation of thought.
  • Assist students with timetabling study/workload and communication skills.
  • Provide research guidance and develop strategies for higher education study challenges.
  • Support individuals with preparation for assessment tasks and social and emotional wellbeing plans.
  • Develop social skills and manage anxiety.
  • Assess risk related to lone working and maintain records to comply with DSA standards.
  • Submit student-signed timesheets for monthly invoicing.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Higher education degree in any discipline.
  • Substantial experience working with students with disabilities and/or specific learning difficulties on a one-to-one basis.
  • In-depth understanding of the effects of specific learning difficulties on language and learning.
  • Awareness of the strengths students with specific learning difficulties can bring to learning.
  • Skills to help students use their strengths and overcome barriers to learning.
  • Good time management, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of data protection and privacy policies.
  • Comprehensive training in adult autism in line with DSA directives.
  • Enhanced DBS check will be required.
