CompanyNigel Wright is delighted to be working exclusively with a privately-owned manufacturing company located in Newcastle upon Tyne. Renowned for its bespoke product design and manufacturing, and boasting a global customer base, we are seeking a General Manager to lead the SME, single-site operation.RoleReporting into the Director and owner, the successful candidate will:
  • Oversee the running of the business, with remote support from the owner as he steps back from day to day involvement.
  • Hold full P&L accountability for the site.
  • Manage daily operations, including production targets, maintenance, procurement, and new product development (NPD).
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Lead all commercial activities with existing and prospective customers, including discussing new opportunities and negotiating terms. Engage with customers throughout the order management process as needed.
  • Drive organic growth within the existing core business, and in addition, identify and evaluate new opportunities
  • Positively affect the performance and potential of all employees.
Experience
  • Proven experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally with a mechanical engineering background and proven commercial experience in a sales / customer facing role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage P&L responsibilities and drive financial performance.
  • Strong operational background with hands-on experience in production and maintenance.
  • Excellent understanding of safety and quality standards, with a track record of ensuring compliance.
  • Commercial acumen with experience in customer engagement, negotiation, and managing the order process.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and manage.
  • Strong project management skills, taking a structured and methodical approach to work, consistently meeting deadlines and being a decisive decision maker.
  • A team player, with very high professional standards and integrity, with strong attention to detail.
