Outreach Support Worker - SEN Life Skills - Newham, East London
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Outreach Support Worker to support SEN students in Newham. This role focuses on helping young people with special educational needs-including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and non-verbal communication needs-to develop essential life skills.
You will work alongside a tutor to provide personalised support, helping students gain independence and confidence in everyday activities such as travel training, communication, social interactions, and basic household skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to SEN students, focusing on life skills development.
- Work closely with a tutor to implement tailored learning strategies.
- Support students with non-verbal communication, using PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices where appropriate.
- Assist with travel training, community engagement, and daily routines.
- Encourage independence and build confidence in students.
About You:
- Experience working with SEN students, particularly those with ASD and non-verbal needs.
- Knowledge of communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC (desirable but not essential).
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable in your approach.
- Ability to motivate and engage students in practical learning activities.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of students.
