AR650 - Transport ManagerLocation: Newport, Shropshire Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, + Company VehicleOverview:First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Transport Manager on behalf of one of our clients.We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our clients business. Reporting directly to the company Directors, the Transport Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of transport and logistics, staff management and recruitment, as well as liaising with our recycling partners.Our client strongly encourages applications from ex-military personnel however, all candidates will be considered.Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee and manage transport operations, including route planning, scheduling, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, and transport regulations (such as Operator Licensing).
  • Coordinate logistics to ensure timely collection and delivery.
  • Manage and recruit drivers and other operational staff, ensuring high levels of performance and motivation.
  • Collaborate with re-refining partners to maintain smooth operational processes.
  • Implement and maintain IT systems to support operational efficiency.
  • Manage fleet budgets, fuel costs, and monitor KPIs for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure excellent customer service through efficient operations and staff training.
  • Regularly report operational performance to the Directors.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in transport or logistics management, preferably within the waste or recycling sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance (including Operator Licensing requirements).
  • Excellent leadership and staff management abilities.
  • Experience in route planning, scheduling, and fleet management.
  • Proficiency in relevant IT systems for logistics and operational management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the waste management or environmental services industry.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices related to recycling and waste management.
