As an ASD Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), supporting them in their academic learning, social integration, and emotional well-being. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), providing tailored support to meet the individual needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with ASD in the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum and engage in lessons.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with ASD, assisting with their social and emotional development.
- Implement strategies and interventions designed to support students' individual learning needs.
- Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCo.
- Encourage positive behavior, social interaction, and communication skills among students.
- Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment where students with ASD can thrive.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and other support staff to ensure students' needs are met effectively.
- Assist in the development and delivery of IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and other learning support plans.
- Support students in transitions between activities, lessons, or during break times.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with ASD or other Special Educational Needs.
- Understanding of ASD and the challenges faced by students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Patient, empathetic, and compassionate attitude toward working with students with additional needs.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
