As an ASD Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), supporting them in their academic learning, social integration, and emotional well-being. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), providing tailored support to meet the individual needs of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with ASD in the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum and engage in lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with ASD, assisting with their social and emotional development.
  • Implement strategies and interventions designed to support students' individual learning needs.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCo.
  • Encourage positive behavior, social interaction, and communication skills among students.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment where students with ASD can thrive.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and other support staff to ensure students' needs are met effectively.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and other learning support plans.
  • Support students in transitions between activities, lessons, or during break times.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with ASD or other Special Educational Needs.
  • Understanding of ASD and the challenges faced by students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patient, empathetic, and compassionate attitude toward working with students with additional needs.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
