Labourer in Construction

This is a temporary position for 37 hours per week over 5 days (Monday-Friday),based atNewtownCollege (SY16 4HU).

The role is to assist the teaching staff in the preparation and maintenance of equipment, materials and workshops.

Principal responsibilities:

  • To provide practical support in workshops to teaching staff and students;
  • To be responsible, in conjunction with teaching staff for creating a pleasant, enjoyable and productive workshop environment for all students;
  • To prepare student areas;
  • To erect and dismantle scaffolding;
  • To clean and maintain equipment on a regular basis to ensure it is kept in safe and in proper working condition;
  • To supply learners with appropriate materials, personal protective equipment and tools;
  • To assist in the modification and production of practical assessment areas, rigs and teaching aids;
  • To undertake specific cleaning and tidying of working areas;
  • In conjunction with teaching staff, be responsible for general Health and Safety within workshops;
  • To set out materials for examinations and practical assessment/training exercises;
  • To assist staff as required;
  • To work, flexibly under the direction of the Head of School, including a variety of craft areas as and when required.

Candidates should have relevant industrial experience with knowledge of Health and Safety requirements. A level 2 Craft Certificate in a relevant discipline and a level 2 in Mathematics and English would be advantageous

The AWR equivalent rate of pay is 12.00 per hour.

Candidates must be fully compliance checked prior to commencement including references and enhanced DBS and must be registered with EWC as Further Education Support Worker.
