Role: In-House Motor Engineer

Location: Hybrid working, with a North Shields office

Hours: Mon-Fri office hours (35 hour working week 9am-5pm)

Duration: Permanent role

Role overview:

My client is a highly dynamic Insurance broker with Head Office based in North Shields where the business roots firmly lie. The business supports provision of specialist insurance products for specific target markets which continues to evolve as the competitive market changes. The company’s expertise in these markets is second to none, and it prides itself on being forward-thinking and customer focused.

They are looking for an experienced In House Engineer: a key part of this role will be collaborating closely internally with Claims Teams to ensure customers experience a great claims journey, offering guidance and expert support to both internal and external customers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting remote desk-based vehicle inspections.
  • Confirm viability of vehicle repair, through valuations, control of repair costs and using the correct repair methods.
  • Consult with other departments and suppliers.
  • Awareness to identify and investigate any areas of potential fraud.
  • Provide technical advice and support to claims teams including new staff inductions sessions.
  • Establish, manage, and control total loss settlement vehicle valuations.
  • Support and develop claims handlers.
  • Support senior management to meet financial objectives and business goals.
  • Support the Head of Claims Operations in recording engineering productivity.

Key qualities & experience required include:

  • Possess City & Guilds/HNC or equivalent qualifications in a motor vehicle related subject and be members of, or qualify for membership of, the IMI or IRTE and be studying or prepared to study for membership of the IAEA.
  • Proven experience of working in a motor vehicle estimating/motor engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of Audatex and other computerised estimating systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicles, up to date repair techniques and estimating methods.
  • Understand correct vehicle repair methods.
  • Effective communication and people skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and flexible but able to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of communicating with customers via email, phone & face to face when required.
