Our client is part of an established Group that specialise in the provision of bespoke materials handling solutions to a diverse range of customers and industry sectors worldwide.

As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Design Manager to complement their established and professional engineering team and manage the day-to-day activities of a busy Design Engineering department.

Reporting to the Technical Director and based out of the production facility near Northampton, the successful Design Manager candidate will oversee the activities of a small team of Mechanical Design Engineers and NPD individuals and will thrive within a customer committed production environment in which the highest levels of quality customer service and satisfaction are of paramount importance.

Core responsibilities for this varied and challenging role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Issuing of manufacturing drawings and managing the Engineering Design Team as well as undertaking other drawings as required and creating associated Bills of material, and also checking calculations in drawings and using Inventor to provide input in designs where required
  • Posting of manufacturing details to ERP / OPERA.
  • Issuing material requirements to the Purchasing function
  • Issuing manufacturing details to the Production team
  • Ensuring documentation including manuals is in place and up to date at all times
  • Developing effective working relations with other teams

Responsible for ensuring consistent Cost effective designs and their issue in a timely manner and their compliance with all relevant quality performance requirements, it is envisaged that the successful Design Manager will be HND or above qualified in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline and demonstrate at least 5 years previous design team leader experience ideally gained in an MHE or manufacturing environment, along with excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to effectively organise and manage the diverse engineering team, whilst acting in the best interests of the business at all times and prioritising in an often pressurised environment.
