Macildowie are working with an Education Institution in Northamptonshire to appoint an Assistant Director of Finance to oversee the financial management of the organisations. This integral role will oversee the day-to-day processing of financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial regulations. This role is responsible for producing management reports, improving financial processes, and managing four members of the finance team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Control financial transactions, including Accounts Receivable, Student Ledger invoices, and supplier purchases.
  • Ensure timely production of statutory and management accounts.
  • Review and improve efficiency in financial processes and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly accounts commentary and cash flow forecasts.
  • Conduct variance analysis and update full-year forecasts.
  • Update finance dashboards and support Finance Performance Boards.
  • Lead the annual Business Planning and Budget process with budget holders.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to support efficient audits.
  • Assist with year-end close down processes and group accounts.
  • Oversee financial aspects of annual student enrolment and debt recovery controls.
  • Ensure compliance with College Financial Regulations and recommend improvements.
  • Document and review funding streams, invoicing Local Authorities as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial plans and regulatory body reports.
  • Promote safeguarding, health & safety, and EDI best practices.
  • Attend relevant meetings, training, and contribute to College values.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Principal or Director of Finance.
Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: Finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • Financial operations management, including transaction processing.
    • Producing management accounts and cash flow forecasts.
    • Liaising with auditors and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
    • Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.

Although working for an education institute, it is not imperative that you have experience within a not for profit organisation as this role would suit a candidate from a private sector organisation with experience of working within an SME who understands the rounded nature of a hands-on role.
