Employment Solicitor (NQ+)

About the Role:

A reputable firm in Northampton is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Employment Solicitor (NQ+) to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to undertake both contentious and non-contentious work, contributing to the firms success while building strong relationships with clients and third-party referrers. You'll be working independently and as part of a collaborative team, handling a varied caseload with a focus on providing high-quality legal services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake fee-earning work to meet the business and financial objectives of the firm.
  • Independently manage a caseload with minimal supervision, while also contributing as a team member.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with existing clients and third-party referrers.
  • Review and amend employment contracts, consultancy agreements, HR policies, and staff handbooks, ensuring compliance with current employment law and best practices.
  • Provide advice on HR matters, including performance management, absence management, disciplinary and grievance processes, equality issues, and anti-compete clauses.
  • Manage employment litigation cases involving unfair dismissal, discrimination, and restrictive covenants.
  • Advise on all aspects of TUPE, redundancy, and reorganisation, including consultation processes, risk assessment, and varying terms and conditions.
  • Draft and advise on settlement agreements.
  • Represent and liaise with both employers and employees.
  • Actively participate in the growth and development of the Employment Team, including client base expansion and marketing efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with the firms client care policies and practices.

About You:

The ideal candidate is self-driven, results-oriented, and focused on delivering high-quality work and achieving business profit. You should be comfortable dealing with Director-level clients, empathetic in communication, and able to work well both independently and as part of a team. You should be committed to the Northamptonshire area and capable of commuting to the office reliably.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of both contentious and non-contentious employment law.
  • Proven ability to advise businesses on all employment-related matters, including TUPE (both transfers and SPCs).
  • Competence in drafting employment law-related documents, such as contracts of employment, director service agreements, consultancy agreements, and settlement agreements.
  • Experience in managing employment litigation cases.
  • Proven ability to assist in corporate transactional work, including drafting complex TUPE provisions.
  • Adept in using case management systems, Outlook, and Word.

Client & Business Development:

  • Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to nurture existing relationships and develop new business.
  • Willingness to participate in networking events and contribute to the firms marketing activities.

Personal Requirements:

  • Must be geographically committed to the Northamptonshire area.
  • Able to work extended hours when required and hold a clean or near-clean driving license.
